About Us
Splash Swimming Club is today owned and run by Victoria Sands with the assistance of her daughter Samantha, they are both ASA qualified teachers.
Victoria co-founded Splash Swimming Club almost twenty years ago, with Ann Greenhead, at the time they where both young mothers and newly qualified ASA teachers, with five children between the ages of two and six. For them teaching their children to swim was an important priority, and they believed that it was important for other mothers to. As the Splash club ethos says “We see swimming as an enjoyable sport, a means of exercise, and more importantly as an invaluable survival skill that will be with them throughout life”.
Since it began, the club has always been of a non-competitive nature; children are encouraged to progress at their own pace, obtaining individual goals. To aid this we teach children in groups according to ability rather than age. They earn ASA (Amateur Swimming Association) and STA (Swimming Teachers Association) badges for skill and distance. Splash welcomes children and adults of all ages. Our experience has shown that the younger a person begins to swim, the easier they will find it. We can begin teaching children from birth*.
Classes have a teacher to pupil ratio of one teacher and two assistants to six/nine children, except where parents swim with their children, in this case the ration is one to twelve. We require parents to get in with their children until they have learnt basic skills, although we are always happy to try to accommodate individual needs. Babies are taught basic survival skills, so by the time they are eighteen months old these skills have become instinctive. Children learn through activities involving nursery rhymes, games and songs. We aim to teach children to relax and be happy in the water, and for the lessons to be enjoyable and fun.
We also believe it is important that, children continue their swimming development at home and we are always happy to give advice on how to achieve this.
* This requires special consideration that should be discussed with us.
