They will have obtained some or all of the following skills and achievements; Five-meter badge, the ability to float on their front and/or back, being able to jump or dive into the water without being caught and have basic survival skills.
These classes are also suitable for children of an older age (three to four plus) who have been bought to lessons for the first time. In this case the lessons may take on a slightly different structure to suit the ability of pupils.
These classes have a high teacher to class ratio, usually a teacher and two helpers to six children. At this level the swimming skills that are taught and strengthened include; water confidence, how to use Woggles, swimming both on their back and front, treading water, jumping in holding the teacher's hand, blowing bubbles, floating with assistanceChildren move up to next level when:
- They have learnt basic front and back crawl as well as breaststroke.
- They can swim the width of the pool on their backs and fronts
- They can tread water after jumping or diving into deep water.
